Filtration and purification get talked about as if they were the same product. They are not. A filter is a physical barrier that catches particles: dust, pollen, dander. Purification treats what passes straight through a filter because it is not a particle at all, or is too small to be caught, including odors and biological growth.
In Southwest Florida the biological side dominates, and it has a specific address. Your evaporator coil is cold, wet and dark for most of the year, which is very close to ideal growing conditions. Where It Goes Matters as Much as What It Is
Two placements, two jobs. The commonest mistake is buying a whole-house system for a problem that starts at the coil, or expecting a coil light to deodorize a kitchen.

Purification maintains a clean coil. Fitting it over an already-fouled coil leaves the existing growth in place, so we inspect first and clean where needed before installing anything.
Lamp position, distance from the coil and system size all affect whether a purification system does what its specification claims. Badly placed, it is mostly decorative.
U.V. output falls over time even while the lamp still glows, so replacement is on a schedule rather than on failure. We set that interval and can handle it on a maintenance visit.

Before You Buy a Purifier
Purification is designed to keep a clean coil clean. Installed over a coil that is already fouled, it leaves the existing growth exactly where it is and the smell with it. We inspect before recommending, and quite often the honest answer is a clean rather than a purchase.
