There is a quirk to buying heating in Southwest Florida that catches people out. In most of the country, heating and cooling are separate purchases made at separate times. Here they are almost always the same box. Replacing your heating usually means replacing your air conditioning, and the reverse is equally true.
That changes how the decision should be made. Sizing has to satisfy a cooling load that runs ten months a year and a heating load that runs for a couple of weeks, and those two requirements pull in different directions. Size for the winter and you end up oversized for summer, cooling the house quickly without removing moisture, leaving it cold and clammy. Size for the cooling load, which is correct here, and auxiliary electric heat covers the handful of nights the heat pump needs help.

What a Proper Installation Includes
The failure modes in this climate are specific, and most of them are decided during the install rather than on the equipment sticker. These are the steps that are easiest to skip and most expensive to skip.
Sizing against the actual building for the cooling load that runs most of the year, then sizing auxiliary heat to supplement rather than substitute. Not square footage, and not matching whatever was there before.
Strip heat draws hard. We check breaker and panel capacity, wire sizing and disconnect condition against the equipment being installed, rather than assuming the existing supply is adequate.
Static pressure, return sizing, duct condition and leakage measured before the new equipment goes on. High static pressure shortens the life of a brand new system exactly as it did the old one.
Configuring the thermostat to the equipment so the heat pump does the work and strip heat only assists when genuinely needed. Get this wrong and the system is expensive from day one.

Straight replacements are the bulk of it, but a good share of what we quote is adding heat where there was none, or conditioning space that was never conditioned before. Both need different thinking from a like-for-like changeout.
