What a Proper Installation Includes
Most of the difference between a system that performs for a decade and one that disappoints from the first summer is decided during the install, not on the equipment sticker. These are the steps that are easiest to skip and most expensive to skip.
Sizing against the actual building: orientation, glazing, insulation, ceiling heights, infiltration and occupancy. Not square footage, and not matching whatever tonnage happened to be there before.
Measuring static pressure and checking return sizing, duct condition and leakage before the new equipment goes on. High static pressure shortens the life of a brand new system exactly as it did the old one.
Evaluating whether the existing line set can be reused or must be replaced, proper evacuation, and charging to manufacturer specification verified by superheat and subcooling rather than by gauge pressure alone.
New drain line, correct trap and slope, secondary drainage and a working float switch. In this climate the drainage detail is what stops a new installation causing ceiling damage in year two.
